Nearly 300 Marines returning to North Carolina from Afghanistan were stuck at Raleigh Durham International Airport Wednesday night due to slick roads. Horizon Coach Lines was able to help out heroes by providing them transportation.

Horizon Coach Lines, headquartered in Sandy Spring, is to open its first Washington area office this month. The transportation specialists are looking for space in the New York Avenue-North Capitol Street corridor. They expect to have the facility open by June 1. The bus company uses its fleet to move attendees at special events. It just finished moving participants at Coachella, the Palm Springs, Calif., music festival that was attended by 180,000.

Sherman and a partner launched TMS in 1995 with $50,000 in savings. The business model did not include buses at first. Instead, TMS would provide the expertise and map out the logistics for big conventions and mega-events.
